An interesting statistic in that table (not included here) is the share of income for different income levels. For the poorest group, the share goes up during the recessions, and down at other times, while the opposite is true for other income groups. Hmmm.
Income share also says the following about the poor. They are:
young
black
female
No surprises there. After all, we've spent $5 trillion on the "war against poverty". Too bad the liberals can't claim the same success as SDI achieved at $30 billion.
Here are the numbers proving that income for females went up during the 1980s (after declining during the Carter years).

Populations in millions
Source: American Almanac, table no. 711, page 453 (1993 ed.).
Note how the working population jumps almost 20% from 1975-80 while only moving 3% during the Reagan Years.
Also note the rise in median income during the Reagan Years (and the decline under Carter).
So much for the criticism that the Reagan Years were ones where females "had to work" because of declining incomes!
Clearly, if any period was one where females "had to work", it was during the Carter Years.
