- Treason:
-
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war
against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and
comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason
and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five
years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and
shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
United States Code, Title 18 - Crimes and Criminal Procedure, Part 1 - Crimes, Chapter 115 - Treason, Sedition and Subversive Activities
The news could not have been more shocking if
the memo
had been found at Al Qaeda headquarters. United States Senators were
plotting to use intelligence data and their Congressional power to counter the President of the United States and his strategy
for waging the war on terrorism. Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-West Virginia), apparently the impetus behind the memo, has
blamed a "staff member" for writing the memo and claimed "it clearly reflects staff frustration that the Senate Intelligence
Committee's investigation has not tackled all of the tough issues."
The limp excuses for the memo aside, the contents of the memo clearly indicate that Democrats intended to pretend
to go along with Senate Republicans reviewing progress on the war on terror, including the liberation of Iraq, while all the
time plotting to accuse the Republicans of "dragging their feet" and not cooperating with the investigation in order to justify
a trumped-up call for an "independent investigation" timed to embarrass President Bush during an election year.
The first part of this disloyal plan has already been staged by the Democrats on Capitol Hill. While pretending
that Republicans are causing unspecified "delays" in investigations into progress on the war, Democrats
are secretly working to prevent any progress at all in order to justify their later moves. As their diabolical memo
reads, Democrats will:
...pull the majority along as far as we can on issues that may lead to major new disclosures regarding improper or
questionable conduct by administration officials. We are having some success in that regard.
When information is provided
by various Federal agencies, Democrats simply claim it is not "enough" and demand more. When all reasonable information is
forthcoming, Democrats demand information they know will endanger intelligence efforts around the world. The Bush
administration correctly resists providing such information, as the Senate is notorious for information leaks.
Democrats planned to seize upon that resistance as "proof" that the Republicans are stalling investigations. The
Democrats also will use any resistance to provide classified data as justification for the second stage of their diabolical
plan: the "independent investigation". Reading again from the faithless memo shows Democrats set out from the beginning
to use false information to further their own goals and never planned on resolving any issues in the Senate:
We will identify the most exaggerated claims. We will contrast them with the intelligence estimates that have
since been declassified.
...
Once we identify solid leads the majority does not want to pursue, we would attract more coverage and have greater
credibility in that context than one in which we simply launch an independent investigation based on principled but
vague notions regarding the use of intelligence.
Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kansas), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the plans detailed by the memo
threatened the integrity of the Committee and its ability to function:
Unless and until this reprehensible attack plan and strategy to derail the committee's important work is properly addressed,
I am afraid that it will be impossible to return to business as usual in the committee."
Democrats are still outraged that President Clinton was impeached, and have been looking ever since for a reason to
besmirch leading Republicans in return. Unable to find any actual evidence against people like President Bush, they
have turned to creating false charges. Once their subterfuge in the Senate had wreaked havoc on any investigations
into the war on terror Democrats would call for an "independent" investigation into the "delays". By independent they
meant partisan and controlled by Democrats. By delays they meant Republicans, specifically President Bush. By leaking
sensitive intelligence information Democrats hoped to create scandals about administration policy on the war on terror.
It does not matter to the Democrats that such leaks would compromise United States security, and the safety of troops
overseas. They are only interested in seizing power they once held at the national level. Any such investigation would
be far from independent, far from just. It would have one goal: to defame the President of the United States, to defeat
any of his goals in the war on terror. In short, it would aiding and abetting our enemies in a time of war. Senate
Majority Leader Dr. Bill Frist (R-Tennessee) said:
Those responsible for this memo appear to be more focused on winning the White House for their party
than on winning the war against terror. Those priorities are wrong. They are dead wrong.
The memo apparently stemmed from Democrat failures to find any damaging information during the Committee's
investigations to date. After it was announced to news outlets that the Committee was wrapping up its
investigations CNN reported that a source told them:
"We felt pretty sandbagged by that," said the source. "That memo was drafted because we needed to look for options."
Since when has treason ever been an option for citizens of the United States? Senator Zell Miller (D-Georgia) has
called the memo "perhaps treasonous". Let me be a little more explicit: it is treasonous!
In typical Democrat fashion, reaction to scandal over the contents of the memo has not been contrition over its existence,
or punishment for those responsible, but rather outrage that they were caught. Claiming that the memo was "stolen" they have
demanded...you guessed it...an investigation. The response to that chutzpah should that an investigation will be
launched...right after they find out who stole over 900 FBI files during the Clinton administration.
Democrats have actively opposed the President on almost every aspect on the war on terrorism, and now they have crossed the
line. They are aiding and abetting the enemy in a time of war. They have conspired to cripple United States intelligence
gathered on the war on terrorism and to use any information—classified or not—they feel can help them
score political points. The time has come for responsible patriots to put an end to this treason. Anyone who had a hand
in creating this strategy should be fired. If they hold public office they should be impeached if they refuse to resign.
We are at war, and the Democrats have chosen to side with our enemies. We should show them no mercy for such treachery.
