We are perched atop a high mountain; we have reached the summit of victory. There are moments in history when clear
choices confront humanity and this was one of those moments. Humanity faced a clear choice: look the other way
while people suffered under an evil regime or do something about it. Fortunately for humanity, President Bush and
Prime Minister Blair persevered: humanity would stop evil. The allies gathered their troops and invaded Iraq. In three
short weeks the majority of Saddam's forces had either been defeated in battle or had thrown away their guns and melted
back into the civilian population. Another week later and there is little sign of resistance.
Not since Patton raced across France has an army moved so far, so fast. Not since British forces defeated an Italian army
many times its size in Africa has an army defeated a more sizeable force, and caused more troops to surrender or desert their
own cause. Fewer than 200,000 Allied soldiers defeated an Iraqi force approximately ten times that size. Despite the armchair
critics in the media, the Allies—also known as the Coalition of the Willing—performed their tasks and achieved their
goals just as their leaders knew they would. The best training, the best equipment, and the best leadership will trump conscripted
evil every time when free countries pursue a policy of peace through strength.
It is clear that Victory in Iraq day is near. Except for a few small pockets of resistance, the war in Iraq is over. Freedom
has won and totalitarianism has lost. So, to, have the forces of obstructionism. The Axis of Weasels and their useful fools
tried to stop the liberation of millions of people for their own selfish reasons. I cannot think of a worse example of ignoring
evil, not to mention profiting from it, since many of the same European nations that protested the liberation of Iraq ignored the
plight of minorities in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.
In contrast to the Weasels, the armed forces of the United States, the United kingdom, Australia, Poland and their allies rose
to the challenge of freeing an oppressed people and have won a great victory in Iraq. A plan that was a brilliant as it was daring
succeeded in bringing about the downfall of a totalitarian regime in Iraq with a minimum of civilian casualties, a minimum of
collateral damage and even a minimum of opposition soldier casualties. In another historical link, the same countries that opposed
The original Axis powers in WWII again led the way for freedom.
The Winners
The leaders of the Allied countries deserve accolades. The troops deserve to be congratulated for a job well done. Those
who gave their lives in this just cause deserve our highest honors. And last but certainly not least, the people of Iraq deserve
the freedom they now have. The list of "winners" is large, but at the head of the list are:
- The people of Iraq
- The allied military forces
- President Bush, Prime Minister Blair, and the other leaders of the allied nations
- The embedded media
- Freedom and Democracy
The Losers
Where there are winners there are usually losers, The number of people who were wrong, through either faulty logic or
premeditated malice are at the top of this list. The Axis of weasels stands out prominently in this list, not only for their
obstructionism but also for the underlying deceit that drove it. France, Germany and Russia were profiting from the
suffering of the Iraqi people. Only those who ran Saddam's totalitarian regime rank higher on the list of losers. The useful
fools also make an appearance here. History has proven that their actions are wrong, and will always be so. But then their
actions were not designed to stop the war as much as they were to oppose the United States and her allies. Also making an
appearance on the list are the Democrats, whose leaders once again proved that they can make a bad situation worse by
criticizing the President early and often, and even on the eve of war. Without further ado, the list of the biggest losers:
- Saddam Hussein and his band of evildoers
- The Axis of Weasels
- Celebrity critics, anti-American propagandists and their enablers
- The useful fools
- Totalitarianism
- The Democrats
- The critics in the media, especially former military officials
- Appeasement
- The United Nations
- Hans Blix
This is unquestionably a great moment in history. In a few years, with hard work and little luck, the people of Iraq will be living in
a thriving democracy and another part of the world will know peace. The world is now a safer place thanks to those who
were willing to do the necessary heavy lifting: George Bush, Tony Blair and their allies. If the Axis of Weasels had won the day,
the people of Iraq would still be suffering and Saddam would still be in power and still be a threat to world peace. Perhaps
equally as bad would be many people believing the useful fool's notion that ignoring evil is a wise policy.
In the midst of the congratulatory rhetoric and mutual back-patting let us remember that it was not the pen that overcame
evil, but the sword. It is easy to sit and pontificate, easy to sit and preach and even easier to sit and whine about
what everyone else does. People who did not seek glory or fame accomplished the hard work of keeping people free and the
world safe. We are blessed to have such people among us, for it is they who pulled the rest of humanity to the top of the
mountain.
